Overdue!

My due date came and went. Plan is to go back tomorrow for final plan-making and either check in Tuesday night or Wednesday morning for induction. So he'll be here by Wednesday at the latest.

Ha, I'm nothing if not an overachiever...

Pinterest and ceilings...

Several weeks ago, I pegged this past weekend as my "big clean" weekend. My parents generously offered (well, I asked them and they agreed) to come help. And shortly after I planned to clean, the light fixture in my kitchen blew out, so my dad agreed to fix it when he came up. Fast-forward to this weekend... most of my pre-baby "busy work" was done... nursery is set up, kitchen is organized, most of the house clean, etc. So my dad started working on replacing the light fixture which involved going up into the attic to get to the bolts/screws that were holding it in place. Somehow he lost his balance and planted a foot through my ceiling raining sheetrock and insulation down on my kitchen. I went into panic "Aw Lawd" mode... because that's what EVERY woman wants to deal with at 38 weeks pregnant. I also knew that my husband is on night shift this week, and I had work things planned every day including applying for my permanent medical license today (!), and I didn't want to have to deal with it. Thankfully, my parents came back up to the house today to meet a contractor to fix the damage, which didn't take long and the results look good... the ceiling will eventually need to be painted completely because the new paint is much brighter/whiter than the old paint, but that can be put aside for a while. And my mom cleaned my floors... I HAAAAATE cleaning floors. I don't mind the actual mopping/sweeping, but I feel like it gets dirty again so quickly that it's pointless.
In other news, I had saved the bows from my baby gifts. I have been looking at baby wreaths/door hangings since I found out I was expecting, but I really didn't want to shell out money for one since I would use it for a week or two, then put it away. So, being the "thrifty" (my aunt taught me long ago to use that term as opposed to "cheap") person that I am, I decided to scrounge around Pinterest and come up with a wreath of my own. So, I took bits and pieces of several things I'd seen and made a wreath using the saved bows as well as cardboard (from one of the gift boxes I also saved), yarn, hot glue, and a cheap grapevine wreath I bought at Hobby Lobby for <$5. It's not the most spectacular thing in the world, but it will definitely work...

I hung it (crookedly) on my wreath hanger just long enough for the picture-- it's currently waiting to be taken to the hospital with us. It kind of annoys me that the spacing is a little off, but it's not terrible... and if it annoys me enough, I'll fix it.

38 weeks

How far along: 37 weeks, 6.5 days...
Baby Size: No telling...
Maternity clothes: Yep
Sleep: Not as bad as it was... getting up once or twice a night, no big problems.
Best moment this week: Packing the hospital bags
Food cravings: Drinks... juice, tea, coke zero, water, anything.
What I'm looking forward to: D-Day!
Pregnancy symptoms: Some reflux, going to the bathroom all the time, going from disgustingly full to starving
Weight gained thus far: 12-13 lbs

35 weeks...

How far along: 35 weeks, 2 days
Baby Size: 5 lb 13 oz on ultrasound this morning
Maternity clothes: I'm really really surprised that I can still wear most of my normal clothes minus my pants that have any type of button/zipper... almost all of my shirts fit (a few are short), all scrubs, shorts, pants with drawstring waists, underwear (TMI, but true), dresses, etc. still fit.
Sleep: Ugggghhhh... terrible! I have started getting up 2-3 times a night and wake up every hour or so because my shoulder or hip hurt from sleeping on my side.
Best moment this week:  Getting out of town for one last trip... spent a 3 day weekend visiting one of my most favorite friends.
Food cravings: None in particular... I really wanted an Icee today, but never went anywhere to get one. I think I was just thirsty.
What I'm looking forward to: Weekly appointments from here on out... may fire up a few old wives' tales in a week or two
Pregnancy symptoms: Unchanged from last time... occasional reflux, (warning TMI) feeling like I have to pee "RIGHT NOW" after repositioning, and going from absolutely fine to starving in 5 seconds flat
Weight gained thus far: 8 lbs. I feel like I'm going to blow up suddenly in the next couple weeks... but that'll be fluid weight, so I'm not too worried.

And a few pictures from this weekend...

Big brother Max is about to be in for a rude awakening...

Lunch at Abe's in Clarksdale... consisting of chips with Abe's BBQ sauce, chili cheese tamales, BBQ pork platter. DELICIOUS....

32 weeks

How far along: 32 weeks, 1 day
Baby Size: 4 lb 4 oz per ultrasound 5 days ago
Maternity clothes: Normal scrubs, some maternity clothes, non-maternity empire waist dresses (see pictures from baby shower in previous post)
Sleep:  Not a major problem. Usually sleep 7-9 hours with no trouble taking naps. Only this week have I started waking up once to go to the bathroom
Best moment this week: Baby shower!!! And getting an absolutely PRECIOUS ultrasound picture at my last appointment (see thumb-sucker from 2 posts ago)
Food cravings: None in particular... I have to eat something substantial for breakfast, but no crazy cravings. I still have tons of food aversions. Case in point... we have a rather large cafeteria-style lunch every day in the doctors' lounge at the hospital where I work. The food is generally pretty good (considering it's hospital food, and considering that it's free to us), but one day this week my plate consisted of mashed potatoes, corn nuggets, and shrimp salad. One of my friends commented that he was glad to see I was still "eating normally"... (normally I'd have loaded up on the chicken spaghetti and salad instead of random sides).
What I'm looking forward to: Hopefully having only/fewer than 8 weeks to go... future doctors appointments
Pregnancy symptoms: occasional reflux, (warning TMI) feeling like I have to pee "RIGHT NOW" after repositioning, and going from absolutely fine to starving in 5 seconds flat
Weight gained thus far: 5 lbs

Baby Shower

I had my baby shower yesterday... a few of my friends and family members go together to host a hometown/family baby shower brunch for me. It was a lot of fun, and I got some very useful (and very cute) gifts.

Here are a few pictures from the occasion...

My mom, me, my sister...

My fabulous hostesses... combination of family and friends.

Me and Rita... shower was at her house. Not quite sure how to adequately describe our relationship... I took 4 classes from her in high school (biology, microbiology, anatomy and physiology and AP biology), but she was as much of a combination of friend/mentor/mother (ALWAYS telling me what to do) as anything else. I've gone back and helped with her classes on every thing from dissection to college advice. And we grew up with her kids. Love her! (Thanks again for hosting, if you ever see this!)

Brunchy food... fruit salad, cajun crawfish cheese grits, cheese spreads, breakfast casserole, brunch bacon, waffles, etc. So delicious...

 A few of my gifts!

An absolutely PRECIOUS outfit (and hand-knitted booties) from one of my favorite hometown families (two of whom served as hostesses)... so sweet!

Couldn't leave out my Ole Miss gift... I'm now up to 7 or 8 Ole Miss outfits along with accessories. That compares to the 2 USM outfits that I begrudgingly bought on behalf of my husband.  I much prefer we represent his degree from Duke when dressing our child in team colors than yellow and black (yuck!). And of course I'll do my best to make sure he knows how to say Hotty Toddy very early in life.

Hotty Toddy

Here's a peek at a thumb sucker... measured 4 lb, 4 oz today at 31 weeks 3 days.

I'm going to do my best to teach him how to say Hotty Toddy before he can walk. And with that in mind, I give you this fine example of a Mississippi State fan... balding mullet. Nothing finer.
