Sharing an article on "selective science"

I read the following blog post today. Thought it was excellent. Sums up my perspective on things perfectly.

I breastfeed. I vaccinate. I am very well educated on both. I am a physician, so I am confident in my level of understanding.

4 Months

Oh, Andrew... you make my day. Every day.

Loves: baths, chewing on anything we'll let you chew on, tastes of anything sweet, me making faces at you

Dislikes: going to sleep, being put into your car seat (but you're fine once you're actually in it)

Clothes: Mostly 3-6 mo and a few 6 mo. Still fit into some 0-3 month onsies, but have outgrown all 0-3 month sleepers. Size 2 shoes. Size 2 diapers.

I weighed you at clinic on your birthday. You weighed 15lb 6oz and were 24.5 inches long. You weighed 15 lb. 5 oz  about 3 weeks ago on the same scale, so I'm not sure how true either weight is. Either way, you are somewhere in that area. You have delicious little fat rolls, but are fairly athletically proportioned (if a baby can be such).

Hair is light brown...and growing! Eyes staying gunmetal gray/blue.

We started cereal this month!  I'm not a diehard "wait til 6 months til feed solids to a baby" proponent. I'm more of a go-with-the-flow type. When you started diving at our forks and plates and putting everything into your mouth, I decided to try a little rice cereal. You loved it! I added a touch of bananas to it this week, and you liked that too. You don't eat it every day, but you love it when you do.

You are still (other than cereal mixed with breast milk) are exclusively breast fed. You take 4-5oz bottles every 3-4 hours at daycare, and nurse on demand at night (usually twice between 5 and 9 pm). You wake up once or twice at night, but usually dreamfeed quickly and never really wake up.

You don't nap well at daycare. You love watching other people are are distracted fairly easily. You stay in a good mood though and usually take a catnap when you get home.

You love to "talk." Just this week, someone said you definitely take after me in that department. You don't "coo" anymore at all. You grunt, growl, and yell.

You are still a good sleeper at night. We've started easing into sleep training, but daycare is helping that immensely.

You still love TV. You will kick back and watch it when you're tired. You also like to listen to people talk on the TV.

You'll sit in your high chair and watch me cook. You definitely have your "I want my mama" moments, but you often seem content to sit in your chair or have your daddy hold you as long as you can see me.

You are getting to be a little more daring... you reach for everything! Eating with you is an adventure... everything has to be out of your reach, and you're strong enough to pull anything to you.

You are getting better about letting most people hold you. I think daycare helps!

You suck on your hands all the time. You drool a good bit.

You will take a pacifier at day care or for most people other than me. You'll take it from me only when you are going to sleep.

You now can roll front to back and back to front. You also tripod sit for short periods of time and are definitely getting stronger.

You started daycare on February 18. There are 7 boys (including you) and 1 girl in your class.

You started to giggle this month! It is the most beautiful sound I have ever heard.
